LEE DE FOREST
He pens a note to a fan with good wishes
Autograph Note Signed: "To Master Jimmy Timbers/With good wishes,/Lee de Forest", 4¼x1¾. Dated (unknown hand) in pencil on verso: "11-4-1940". Lee de Forest (1873-1961) patented more than 300 inventions in wireless telegraphy, radio telephony, sound-on-film talking pictures, high-speed facsimile transmission, television, radiotherapy and related areas. One of his most important inventions was the vacuum tube that was used in radios and televisions. He titled his autobiography, Father of Radio, but de Forest did not generally receive that recognition; he is regarded, however, as a major contributor to the development of broadcasting. Lightly creased. Faint glue stains show through at the upper loop of the "L" in Lee and the inscription (all legible). Fine condition.
