American heavyweight boxer Lee Savold (1916-1972) starting fighting in a
carnival act, challenging "all comers." He held the British and European
heavyweight title (1950-1951), withdrawn after Joe Louis knocked him out in
the first round of a non-title bout. The next year he lasted seven rounds
against Rocky Marciano. For nearly 60 years (1948-2007), Savold held the
record for the quickest knockout in a Madison Square Garden main event (54
seconds), with Italy's Gino Buonvino his victim. He retired with a
professional record of 65-38-2. Lightly soiled and worn at corners. Pencil date
(unknown hand) on verso (no show-through). Horizontal crease near top edge.
