LEE SAVOLD
Signed 3½x5½ photo, poised to throw a punch
Photograph signed: "Good Luck/Lee Savold". B/w, 3½x5½. American
heavyweight boxer Lee Savold (1916-1972) starting fighting in a carnival act,
challenging "all comers." He held the British and European heavyweight
title (1950-1951), withdrawn after Joe Louis knocked him out in the first
round of a non-title bout. The next year he lasted seven rounds against Rocky
Marciano. For nearly 60 years (1948-2007), Savold held the record for the
quickest knockout in a Madison Square Garden main event (54 seconds), with
Italy's Gino Buonvino his victim. He retired with a professional record of
65-38-2. Lightly worn at corners. Adequate contrast. Fine
condition.
