The two performers sign a vintage 3½x5 photo in formal dress
Photograph signed: "Lee White", "&/Clay Smith" in black ink. 3½x5. Clay Smith (1885-?) and Lee White (1886-1927) were a husband and wife vaudeville team. White was a popular singer on stage and gramophone recordings. Her rendition of "When I Met You Last Night in Dreamland" was a popular hit in 1913. Smith wrote many of the songs White sang, and also produced shows in which both appeared. These included Keep Smiling (1913) and Let's Go (1927), both of which debuted on London stages. Although White and Smith were Americans, their popularity was greatest in England and Australia, where they frequently toured. Lightly silvered and spotted at edges. Mounting paper on verso (no show-through). Otherwise, fine condition.
