LEFF POUISHNOFF
The popular 1920's pianist signs in green ink on this personal concert program
Program Signed: "Leff Pouishnoff", in green ink, 5x7½. 1 page. Program for a presentation of
Pouishnoff, presented by T. Arthur Russell (in association with Harold Holt). Leff
Pouishnoff (1891-1959) was a Ukranian born pianist and composer, popular in the
western world in 1920's. Pouishnoff began playing piano young, eventually using his talent
to help make money for his family after the death of his father. He took an interest in
chemistry in school, but ultimately decided on pursuing piano studies. He did well in school,
being praised by his teachers and mentors, making a musical tour through Europe after his
studies. Most of his fame for his performances came from his extensive playing of pieces
from Frédéric Chopin. His fame began to grow, but was halted when World War I erupted.
In 1920 he moved to Britain, which would remain his home until he took his life in 1959.
Corners and edges lightly worn. Frayed on left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
