geneticist Leland Hartwell (b. 1939) received the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine
in 2001 (along with Tim Hunt and Paul Nurse) "for their discovery of key regulators of the
cell cycle." Hartwell focused on yeast cells, which proved to be very similar to human cells.
His studies helped him acquire knowledge that proved immediately useful not only in
diagnosing tumors, but also in potentially treating them. Fine condition.
