GIANT AUTOGRAPHED PHOTOGRAPH OF LEWIS TRIUMPHING OVER MIKE TYSON TO RETAIN
HIS UNDISPUTED HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE IN 2002; THE BOUT WAS THE HIGHEST-GROSSING
EVENT IN PAY-PER-VIEW HISTORY
LENNOX LEWIS. Large Photograph signed: "Lennox Lewis".
Color, 21¾x15½. Depicts Lewis in the ring in Memphis, Tennessee on June 8,
2002, when he faced Mike Tyson to defend his title as Undisputed Heavyweight
Champion. The largest sporting event ever held in Memphis, the fight
generated $106.9 million from 1.95 million buys on pay-per-view in the U.S. The
fight was originally scheduled for April 6, 2002 in Las Vegas, but the
state of Nevada (as well as several other states) refused to license Tyson. The
lopsided fight, which was one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights in
years, ended in the 8th round, when Lewis won by a KO. Tyson had to pay Lewis
$335,000 out of his share of the purse for biting Lewis at the news
conference announcing the fight. British boxer Lennox Lewis (born in London in
1965) won the gold medal in the Super Heavyweight division at the 1988 Summer
Olympics in Seoul. Named WBC Champion in 1992, he lost the title to
Oliver McCall in 1994 but regained it in 1997. Lewis won the World
Heavyweight Championship in 1998 defeating Shannon Briggs. He won the WBA
and IBF World Heavyweight Championship in 1999. Lewis lost his title to Hasim
Rahman on April 21, 2001 but regained it on November 17th. Lewis retired in 2004
with a record of 41 wins (32 by KO), two losses and one draw. Minor
surface creases (most not evident head on). Circular label affixed at lower
right corner. Fine condition.
