LENORE ROMNEY (MRS. GEORGE ROMNEY)
The wife of one Presidential candidate, and mother of another, sends thanks for a book.
Typed Letter signed: "Lenore Romney", 1 page, 7¼x10½ East Lansing, Michigan, 1967 July 17. On letterhead of the Executive Residence to Miss Barbara Norton, Sheraton-Park Hotel, Washington, D.C. In full: "It was thoughtful of you to send me 'Celebrity Parade'. I found it fascinating. What a tremendous, all-encompassing job you do. Thank you. Very sincerely". Lenore (LaFount) Romney (1908-1998) married George Romney in 1931, and proved a great asset to her husband when he served as President of American Motors (from 1954) and Governor of Michigan (1963-1969). A popular First Lady and invaluable campaigner during her husband's gubernatorial and Presidential (1968) bids, she lost her own bid for a US Senate seat by a 2-1 margin in 1970. Traditional on many issues, Lenore Romney was a strong advocate for career women in business and politics. Mitt Romney, the youngest of her four children, was Governor of Massachusetts (2002-2006) and the Republican Presidential nominee in 2012. Normal mailing folds. Creased. Fine condition.
