from his work as an English teacher for immigrants signed this card in black
ink
Printed Card Signed in Ink: "Leo Rosten". 5x3 index card. Leo Calvin Rosten
(1908-1997) was born in modern-day Poland. During the Great Depression,
Rosten began to teach English to immigrants who came to the United States just
like his family. He used his experiences in the classroom to write a series of
stories centered around the fictional character Hyman Kaplan, a student
trying to learn English. The collection of stories was compiled into two
volumes, both of which became extremely popular. He also wrote the
screenplay of several films, including Double Dynamite (1951), Where
Danger Lives (1950), and The Conspirators (1944). Note on verso in unknown
hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
