McKern (1920-2002, born Reignald McKern in New South Wales) was an Australian actor with over 70 movies and TV shows, as well as over 200 stage productions, to his credit. He made his stage debut in 1946 after serving in Australia's Royal Engineering Corps during World War II and went on to appear on the London stage, especially with many appearances in the Old Vic. McKern is probably best remembered for playing Horace Rumpole in TV's Rumpole of the Bailey, which aired off and on between 1978 and 1992, a role that he apparently considered both a blessing and a curse. McKern's booming voice and pudgy face also earned him roles as villains in many comedies, including the Beatles' Help! (1965) and as Professor Moriarty in The Adventure of Sherlock Holme's Smarter Brother (1975). His more serious roles include Thomas Cromwell in the 1963 Broadway production of A Man for All Seasons, a role he reprised in the 1966 film adaptation. Fans of The Prisoner (1967-1968) may recognize him as one of the many Number Two's who matched wits with Patrick McGoohan's Number Six. Lightly toned and creased. Mounting remnants and paper loss in upper right and lower corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
