THE ACTOR ENLISTS HELP IN PLANNING A 40TH ANNIVERSARY REUNION FOR HIS COLLEGE
LEO CARRILLO. TLS: "Leo" as Prefect, 1p, 8½x11. Santa Monica, California, 1951, no month or date. On pictorial letterhead of 40th Anniversary Reunion - 1951/Old St. Vincent's to Mr. Frank Murray. Headed: "First Meeting - 1951 - Reunion Committee". In full: "You and I enjoy the privilege of serving on the Committee in charge of this year's 40th Anniversary Reunion. Recalling, as I do with great affection, our days as students at Old St. Vincent's College, I consider it an honor to serve as your Prefect this year. And as announced at last year's gathering, I will be happy to have the 1951 Reunion held on the grounds of my home at Santa Monica, Monday evening August 6th. It has probably occurred to you that the old school closed its doors for the last time, 40 years ago this June, but the world knows we have never closed our hearts to its memories and friendships. This being the 40th Anniversary Year, we must create and stage a Reunion that will recall and emphasize the glorious traditions of St. Vincent's College and its contribution to early Los. (sic) Angeles. For that reason, I hope you will attend the first meeting of our group at the Hollywood Brown Derby, at which time we will formulate our plans. We will have dinner in the Derby's AMERICAN ROOM Monday evening June 11th at 6:30 P.M. The meeting will follow dinner. Please return the enclosed card promptly so that dinner reservations may be made accordingly. Adios mi amigos. Sincerely". At the time he wrote this letter, Carrillo was starring in his most famous role on the television series, The Cisco Kid (1950-1956). After portraying Pancho, the Cisco Kid's sidekick in four films (1948-1949), stage, screen and television actor Leo Carrillo (1880-1961) repeated the role when he and Duncan Reynaldo (as Cisco) starred in 156 half-hour episodes of the television series, The Cisco Kid. Carrillo, who had made his film debut in 1927 (At The Ball Game), was last seen in features in 1950's Pancho Villa Returns. He was related by blood and marriage to a long line of distinguished original Californians. Leo Carrillo State Park and Leo Carrillo Beach, both in California, were named after the actor, who also served on the State Park and Recreation Commission. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature. Nicked at blank left margin at upper horizontal fold. Fine condition.
