LEON ERROL (1881-1951, born Leonce Errol Simms in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) was an actor and comedian. Errol, a medical student who got sidetracked into variety shows at his alma mater, has a long resume with roles in over 160 movies between 1921 and 1951 and 21 Broadway productions between 1911 and 1929, including five incarnations of Ziegfeld Follies between 1911 and 1915 and Ziegfeld Midnight Frolic (1921-1922, 123 performances). He got his start touring Australia and New Zealand, performing in circuses and burlesques and even doing some Shakespearean acting before immigrating to the United States in 1905. Errol had lead and supporting roles in film but is probably best known for his two-reeler comedies with RKO Radio Pictures, in which he often played a henpecked husband. BARBARA JO ALLEN (1906-1974) was featured from 1937 on several radio series, including One Man's Family and I Love a Mystery. In 1939, she created the character of Vera Vague, an ambitious, overzealous woman who spouted misinformation. The character became quite popular and was featured on Bob Hope's radio show from 1941. She married Hope's producer, Norman Morrill, in 1943. Allen appeared in over 60 movies and TV shows between 1938 and 1963, often credited as Vera Vague. She was featured in a long series of Columbia comedy shorts, with titles like She Snoops to Conquer and Hiss and Yell. Allen also provided voices for animated Disney films, including Sleeping Beauty and The Sword in the Stone. Left edge frayed from binding. Otherwise, fine condition.
