Photograph signed "Yours truly/Leon Errol". 5x6¾ overall, 4½x6¼ image, one surface, printed on cardstock. Errol (1881-1951, born Leonce Errol Simms in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia) was an actor and comedian. Errol, a medical student who got sidetracked into variety shows at his alma mater, has a long resume with roles in over 160 movies between 1921 and 1951 and 21 Broadway productions between 1911 and 1929, including five incarnations of Ziegfeld Follies between 1911 and 1915 and Ziegfeld Midnight Frolic (1921-1922, 123 perforamances). He got his start touring Australia and New Zealand, performing in circuses and burlesques and even doing some Shakespearean acting before immigrating to the United States in 1905. Errol had lead and supporting roles in film but is probably best known for his two-reeler comedies with RKO Radio Pictures, in which he often played a henpecked husband. Lightly toned, soiled, creased and bowed. Adhesive residue on verso. Otherwise in fine condition.
