French, fully translated. Begins: "Sir". In full: "From
my birthplace where I have come to spend a few months, I take pleasure in
answering your request received only this morning. I am much in sympathy with
your artistic taste, and I hope I shall be favored someday to make your personal
acquaintance, in the meantime, I beg you to accept dear sir the assurance of my
highest respect." French painter Léon Lhermitte (1844-1925), a founding
member of the Societe Nationale de Beaux-Arts, executed works depicting the
peasants and rural life of his youth in charcoal, oil and pastels. Lightly
creased. Fine condition.
