White handwrote and signed this letter from Newhaven, Sussex, England to Todd Axelrod, recounting the highlights of his acting and producing career.
Autograph letter signed "Leonard White". 1 page, 8x11½, on White's letterhead. Newhaven, Sussex, England. Addressed to "Mr. Axelrod". In full: "Dear Mr. Axelrod: - In my earlier career as an Actor I believe the highlight to have been when I created the role of 'DAVID KING' in Christopher Fry's marvellous [sic] play - A SLEEP OF PRISONERS both in London [England] and, it was my debut, in New York City. Since then as a Producer, there have been many delights but mostly I cherish fond memories of being the original Producer of THE AVENGERS: and also producing 'CALL ME DADDY' starring DONALD PLEASANCE and JUDY CORNWALL, which won an International EMMY AWARD [this when I was in charge of 'Armchair Theatre'] for ABC-TV (UK). Both these reflect respect abroad which is very special." White, born in Newhaven, Sussex, England in 1916, is an actor, producer and playwright. White got his start on the stage, then moved to the silver screen in 1951 with The Dark Man. Movie starring roles eluded him, and he gave them up in 1958 to concentrate on TV. White broke into TV in 1960 as a producer on British television with Police Surgeon and went on to produce episodes of The Avengers (1961-1962), Armchair Theatre (1963-1969) and Strathblair (1993). Lightly toned and rippled. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
