He signs a 1941 document with Columbia Records, reducing the royalties due him under a 1940 contract for a recording of Peter and the Wolf.
Document signed: "Leopold Stokowski", 1 page, 8½x11. New York, N.Y., 1941 May 28. Agreement with Columbia Records on the latter's letterhead, paring down his the compensation for a recording of Peter and the Wolf, conducted by him with the All-American Youth Orchestra and narrated by Basil Rathbone, to 80% of the previously stated terms. Stokowski (1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Stokowski had founded the All-America Youth Orchestra in 1940. Married three times, Stokowski also had a much publicized affair with actress Greta Garbo. Lightly creased.
