Typed letter signed "Leopold Stokowski". 1 page, 5¼x6¾, on stationery of the Connaught Hotel in London, England. April 26, 1951. Addressed to William Morris, Esq., Embassy of the United States of America, Grosvenor Square, London, England. In full: "Dear Mr. Morris Thank you again for all your great kindness, which I deeply appreciate. This afternoon two girls are coming you're your Office, I understand, and I will dictate my impression of the four American compositions. It, in any way, they are not in the form you think to be desirable, please let me know and I will try again. With friendly greetings to you and Mr. Taylor, Sincerely,". Stokowski (1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Lightly toned. Folded once and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
