Stokowski signed this typed letter on his personalized stationery to Marty Wargo, his producer at London Records in 1966, discussing an upcoming recording session of music by Richard Wagner.
Typed letter signed: "Leopold Stokowski". With black ink addition in letter in Stokowski's hand. 2 pages, 8½x5½, 1 sheet, front and verso, on Stokowski's personalized stationery. New York City, April 27, 1966. Addressed to London Records, Inc. New York City, Attention: Mr. Marty Wargo. In full: "Dear Mr. Wargo I have a rehearsal marked on June 15 for the Wagner LP, as well as rehearsals and recording June 20, 21, 22. Is the rehearsal on June 15 still definite? If so, what time and place? Sincerely". Postscript: "P.S. Thank you for not including 'For unto us a Child is born.' Thank you also for your suggestions regarding Shostakovich's Symphonies." MARTY WARGO was Stokowski's producer from 1963 to 1970 and his personal manager from 1973 until Stokowski's death in 1977. LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI (1882-1977) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), New York Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Lightly creased and rippled. Additions and signature are lightly haloed, but legible. Show-through from both sides touches typewriting but not additions or signature. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise, fine condition.
