As Music Director of the Hollywood Bowl, he signs a typed letter (1945), inquiring about a piece of sound equipment.
Typed Letter signed: "Leopold Stokowski", 1 page, 7¾x11. Hollywood, California, 1945 June 29. On letterhead of the Hollywood Bowl Association to Simeon Gest, Hollywood. In full: "Thank you for your letter of June 28. When and where can I see and hear the resonator? Thank you for giving me this opportunity. Sincerely". Stokowski (1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. A showman known for his lush interpretations of the classics, and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Married three times, Stokowski had a much publicized affair with Greta Garbo in 1937-1938). Simeon Gest was a theatrical producer, the lesser known brother of Broadway producer and David Belasco son-in-law, Morris Gest (d. 1942). Fold creases through signature. Lightly creased.
