LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI
Stokowski signed this typed letter on his personalized stationery to Marty Wargo, his producer at London Records, in 1969 regarding a 1970 recording session with the London Symphony Orchestra.
Typed letter signed "Leopold Stokowski" in blue ink. With blue ink underlining in letter in unknown hand. 1 page, 8½x5½, on Stokowski's personalized letterhead. New York City, March 14, 1969. Addressed to Mr. Marty Wargo, London Records, Inc. New York City. In full: "Dear Friend Thinking about September 1970. If we perform Stravinsky's Sacre with the London Symphony Orchestra it takes about 33 minutes. Would that go on two sides of one record? The concert beforehand could begin with bach in the first half and Sacre in the second half, Are you in agreement with this? Greetings". MARTY WARGO was Stokowski's producer from 1963 to 1970 and his personal manager from 1973 until Stokowski's death in 1977. LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI (1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Lightly toned and creased. Signature is slightly shaky, but legible. Light tear and binder hole in upper left corner. Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
