Stokowski signed this typed letter on his personalized letterhead in
1934 to let the recipient know that he couldn't include a soloist in one of his
concerts.
Typed letter signed "Leopold Stokowski". With erased pencil
notations at top of page in unknown hand. 1 page, 8x10, on Stokowski's
personalized letterhead. Nov. 6, 1934. Addressed to Dr. James Francis
Cooke, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In full: "Dear Doctor Cooke It is very
kind of you to let me know about Mlle. Boynet. All our programs and soloists are
arranged for the present season so I am afraid we cannot include her now but
there might be an opportunity sometime later on. It is always a pleasure to hear
from you. Sincerely,". Stokowski (1882-1977, born
Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted
the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra
(1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston
Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He
was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his
baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia
(1940). Lightly toned and creased. Folded in quarters and unfolded. Otherwise in
fine condition.
