LEOPOLD STOKOWSKI
Stokowski signed this typed letter on his personalized stationery to Marty Wargo, his producer at London Records, in 1966, thanking him for a record and asking about marketing his records in Italy and Mexico.
Typed letter signed "Leopold Stokowski". 1 page, 8½x5½, on Stokowski's personalized stationery. New York City, Nov. 15, 1966. Addressed to Mr. Marty Wargo, London Records, New York, N.Y. In full: "Dear Mr. Wargo Thank you for the London Record of Andalusian Scenes of Breton. Would you like it back after I have listened to it? Sincerely". Postscripted: "P.S. I notice that our records are selling very well in Italy and Mexico. Apparently there is much interest in those two countries. Can we still further stimulate this interest? As soon as convenient for everyone concerned, can we have a meeting with you, Mr. D'Amato, and myself to discuss which Orchestra in London with which we wish to give concerts and make records?" MARTY WARGO was Stokowski's producer from 1963 to 1970 and his personal manager from 1973 until Stokowski's death in 1977. Stokowski (1882-1977, born Leopold Antoni Stanislaw Boleslawawicz Stokowski in London England) conducted the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (1909-1912), Philadelphia Orchestra (1914-1936), N.Y. Symphony Orchestra (1944-1945) and Houston Symphony (1955-1962). He formed the American Symphony Orchestra in 1962. He was known for his lush interpretations of the classics and it was under his baton that the orchestra played the music for Disney's Fantasia (1940). Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Paper clip impression and rust stain at bottom edge, which touches signature. Typewriting shows through on both sides (does not touch signature). Folded twice and unfolded. Otherwise in fine condition.
