LeROY NEIMAN
Calendar page of his serigraph of the 1990 Masters in Augusta.
Printed Image signed: "LeRoy Neiman". Color, 13¾x10¼ overall, image 12¾x9¼ (one surface). Captioned: "April in Augusta". Facsimile signature and date, "LeRoy Neiman '90", printed at lower right corner. On verso is an unsigned color image of his Soccer. LeRoy Neiman (1921-2012) is best known for his brilliantly colored, energetic illustrations. Based in New York City, he is recognized as the consummate sports artist of the 20th century. In 1972 he was named the official artist for the Olympic Games. He was designated the outstanding sports artist in America by the Amateur Athletic Union (1976) and was given the Olympic Artist of the Century Award in 1979, and Sport Artist of the Year Award in 2007. This calendar page is a reproduction of his 1990 serigraph (original size 28½x38) that was produced in a limited edition of 550 numbered impressions. Featured is Jack Nicklaus, who appears in a number of Neiman's other works. Nicklaus, who had just won a Senior Tour event in Scottsdale, Arizona, had hoped to become the oldest (at 47) to win the Masters. Ironically, the event was won by defending champion Nick Faldo, the first to win back-to-back green jackets since the feat had been accomplished by Nicklaus in 1965-1966. Lightly creased at margins. File hole at upper background. Fine condition.
