LES BROWN
Sepia publicity photograph of a young Les Brown behind a microphone
for NBC.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Joanne/Best of luck/Les
Brown". Sepia, 8x10 overall, image 7½x9 (one surface). Bandleader Les Brown
(1912-2001) led his jazz oriented dance bands, which included the Les Brown

saxophonist and clarinetist formed his first permanent orchestra in 1938 and had
his first big hit with Doris Day's rendition of "Sentimental Journey" in
1944. Three years later, Brown began his association with Bob Hope,
making his first tour of military bases in 1950. Brown, who appeared with his
talented musicians in several feature films, continued to tour through the
1960s and made occasional appearances in later decades, giving his final
performance just five months before his death. Fine condition.
