The championship tennis player pens a signature to a fan. An extremely rare signature from the historic American player!
Inscribed signature: "To Joyce/Les Stoefen", 5¼x4½. Lester "Les" Stoefen (1911-1970) was a champion American tennis player, popular in the 1930's for his superb amateur record. Stoefen had won multiple titles even before turning professional, including a Wimbledon Championship (1934), two U.S. National Championships (1933 and 1934), and the U.S. Davis Cup. In his Davis Cup, he won all six matches, including the only match the U.S. won against the British. He has been ranked highly by peers and critics, being ranked No. 9 in the world by Pierre Gillou and No. 10 by A, both rankings coming only 3 years after beginning his tennis career. Although he retired early in 1942, he left a great impression on the tennis world, and is still considered one of the pioneers of the sport by fans and players alike. Surface creases.
