LES PAUL
Color photo of electric guitar pioneer Les Paul on stage with guitar legend Eddie Van Halen, signed by Paul in blue ink
Photograph signed "Les Paul" in blue ink. Color, 8x10. Paul (1915-2009), born Lester William Polfus, began playing guitar as a child. He broadcast on the radio in the early 1930s and 1940s. Dissatisfied with the sound of the guitars he played, Paul developed his own design for a solid-bodied instrument. He experimented with a multi-tracking concept of recordings while his wife, Mary Ford, sang multiple vocal lines. This resulted in How High The Moon and Vaya Con Dios, both number one hits. The couple had 28 hits in the 1950s, including Mockin' Bird Hill. As an inventor, Paul's breakthrough creation of the solid-body electric guitar paved the way for electric music that made the sound of Rock and Roll possible. In 1953, while performing with Bing Crosby, he perfected the first multi-track recording machine, allowing separate lines of instrumental music and vocals to be blended together. His many recording innovations, including sound-on-sound, overdubbing, reverb effects and multi-tracking, greatly accelerated the advancement of studio recording. Paul was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Ink lightly beaded. Minor surface scratches (not evident head-on). Fine condition.
