LESLEY GORE
Signed b/w photo of Gore as an older woman with pearls and earrings.
Photograph signed: "All the best/Lesley Gore". B/w, 5x7 overall, image 4¼x6¼ (one surface).Gore, born Lesley Sue Goldstein in 1946 in New York, New York, is an American singer and songwriter who is best known for the song It's My Party, which topped the charts in 1963 while she was still a junior at Dwight School for Girls in Englewood, New Jersey. Gore placed two more songs on Billboard's Top 10 in 1963 - Judy's Turn to Cry, the sequel to It's My Party, and She's a Fool, which both peaked at No. 5, and one more in 1964, You Don't Own Me, which peaked at No. 2. She was one of the most popular female singers in the 1960s, but turned down numerous television and movie contracts in order to go to college. Girl group music, like Gore's, suffered with the rise of psychedelic music, but she continued to write and compose songs, include some of the soundtrack for the 1980 move Fame. In 2005, she recorded Ever Since, her first album in 29 years. Three of the songs have been used in movies and television. One of the songs, Words We Don't Say, was used in the TV show The L Word, which is about lesbian and bisexual women - an interesting development, as Gore announced that she was a lesbian in 2005. As of this biography, she lives with her partner of over 20 years. Fine condition.
