Typed lyrics to the hit It's My Party, which rose top of the charts in 1963
Typed Lyrics Signed "Lesley Gore". 1 page, 8½ x 11. These are the lyrics to Gore's chart-topping 1963 hit It's My Party, which was written by Herb Weiner, Wally Gold and John Gluck, Jr. and sung by Gore while she was a still a high school junior. The sheet has six stanzas, three of which are the song's famous chorus, and credits for Weiner, Gold and Gluck. Gore (1946-2015) was an American singer and songwriter who is best known for the song It's My Party, which topped the charts in 1963 while she was still a junior at Dwight School for Girls in Englewood, New Jersey. Gore placed two more songs on Billboard's Top 10 in 1963 - Judy's Turn to Cry, the sequel to It's My Party, and She's a Fool, which both peaked at No. 5 - and one more in 1964, You Don't Own Me, which peaked at No. 2. She was one of the most popular female singers in the 1960s, but turned down numerous television and movie contracts in order to go to college. Girl group music, like Gore's, suffered with the rise of psychedelic music, but she continued to write and compose songs, including some of the soundtrack for the 1980 move Fame. In 2005, she recorded Ever Since, her first album in 29 years. Three of the songs have been used in movies and television. One of the songs, Words We Don't Say, was used in the TV show The L Word, which is about lesbian and bisexual women - an interesting development, as Gore announced that she was a lesbian in 2005. Lightly toned and creased. Lower right corner is lightly creased and rounded. "L" in signature covers part of the last stanza. Otherwise, fine condition.
