B/w, 5¼x3¼ overall, 5x3¼ image, one surface. Phillips, born in London,
England in 1924, is a character actor of stage and screen who specializes in
upper-crust characters, despite being born into poverty in real life. His
father died when he was young, but he managed to get rid of his lower-class
accent, then considered an impediment for an actor, and became his family's
breadwinner at 14. Harry Potter fans may recognize his voice as that of the
Sorting Hat from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and Harry
Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. In all, Phillips has almost 150
films and TV shows to his credit, as of this biography, since 1936. Lightly
bowed and creased. Pen skipped while signing signature, but is legible.
Handwriting is lightly smeared, but legible. Impressions from writing on verso
on image, which touch handwriting on front but not signature. Otherwise in fine
condition.
