Autograph Sentiment signed: “All Good Wishers/ Leslie Sarony” on front and “Best Wishes/ Jack Hulbert” on verso, both in black ink, 6¼x3¾. LESLIE SARONY (1897-1985) was a British musician and actor. Beginning his stage career at the tender age of 14, Sarony's first career appearance was in the revue Hello Tango in 1913. Then, his career was put on hold while he served in World War I with the London Scottish Regiment. Rising to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s, Sarony appeared in short films and on the radio as a variety performer. He also made several recordings, such as “He Played his Ukulele as the Ship Went Down” and “I'm a Little Prairie Flower” with Leslie Holmes. Later in his career, Sarony appeared in several films and on TV shows as a guest star, and continued to perform into his twilight years. Comedy actor JACK HULBERT (1892-1978) was educated at Cambridge University, and first appearing in shows and revues with Cambridge's amateur theatrical club (Cambridge Footlights). Popular in the comedy troupe, Hulbert soon found success in film, making his debut in 1930 with Elstree Calling. He would go on to appear in several more movies through the 1930s, being voted the most popular British star in 1934, and third most popular in 1936. As the 1930s came to an end, Hulbert's popularity began to fade, and he and his wife returned to entertaining primarily on stages, which he continued to do late into his life. He still made rare television and film appearances though, his last one being in 1974's The Cherry Picker. Additional signer on verso merits further research. Left edge irregular from being neatly torn from album. Toned, especially at edges. Scuffed on verso below Hulbert's signature. Otherwise, fine condition.
