(1897-1985), born Leslie Frye, was a British actor, singer and songwriter.
On stage from age 14, he appeared in the review Hello Tango (1913_ before
serving with the London Scottish Regiment in France and the Balkans during World
War I. Popular on stage, radio and short films of the 1920's and 1930's, he
performed novelty songs interspersed with comic banter. Many of these were
recorded, some backed by Jack Hylton's Orchestra. From 1935 to 1946, he
teamed with Leslie Holmes as The Two Leslies. Sarony continued to perform
into his eighties, making many British TV guest appearances. He appeared as an
elderly insurance clerk in Monty Python's The Meaning of Life (1983).
