LESTER ALLEN
Handwritten sentiment of the comic performer
Autograph Sentiment signed: "Sincerely/Lester Allen", 5½x3,
affixed to a 5½x3½ card (2 surfaces). Lester Allen (1891-1949) was a
vaudevillian who acted on stage and screen and in circuses. He performed on
Broadway from 1907 to 1933, mostly in comedies and musical revues, including
several seasons of George White's Scandals. He often wrote lyrics
for these shows. Allen played smaller, often un-credited roles in films,
among the last being two of the Ma and Pa Kettle movies (1949-1950). He
did play the title role in a 5-reel comedy, Leave It to Lester (1930),
but this film has disappeared. Allen was killed while attempting to cross a
California highway. Ink and pencil notes (unknown hand) at top and bottom edge
(not affecting signature). Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Paper residue affixed
at top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
