In full: “Am pleased to have the opportunity to add my autograph to your collection./ With best wishes, I am/ Sincerely, [signature]/ Lester C. Hunt/ Governor of Wyo. 1943-49”. Lester Callaway Hunt (1892-1954) was born in Isabel, Illinois. He graduated from the St. Louis University College of Dentistry in 1917 and after visiting Wyoming to play semi-pro baseball, Hunt moved to Lander, Wyoming to commence his dental practice. During World War I he served in the United States Army Dental Corps and rose to the rank of major. He was the president of the Wyoming State Board of Dental Examiners (1926-1928), member of the Wyoming State House of Representatives (1933-1934), Secretary of State of Wyoming (1935-1943), and Governor of Wyoming (1943-1949). In 1948 he was elected as a Democrat for Wyoming to the United States Senate and he served from January 3, 1949 until June 19, 1954, when he died after shooting himself in his Senate office. Faint staining and scuffing on front and verso, not affecting typed text or signature. Toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
