LETTER FROM AN UNKNOWN WOMAN MOVIE CAST: JOAN FONTAINE and LOUIS JOURDAN
Shown together in a scene from the 1948 film Letter from an Unknown Woman
Photograph signed: "Joan Fontaine" and "Louis Jourdan" in black felt tip, B/w 10x8. Shown together in a scene from the 1948 film Letter from an Unknown Woman. Stage, screen and television actress JOAN FONTAINE (born Joan de Beavoir de Havilland in 1917) started in film in 1935, but her career took off in the 1940s, when she starred in two of Alfred Hitchcock's films, Rebecca (for which she received an Oscar nomination) and Suspicion (for which she received the Best Actress Academy Award in 1941). The younger sister of actress Olivia deHavilland, they were the first sisters to win Oscars and the first to be nominated for Academy Awards in the same year (1941). When Joan won the coveted statuette in 1941, the sisters, who were known for their jealous feuds, became permanently estranged. Jourdan (1921-2015) debuted in films in 1939, playing dashing, lead roles in a number of French romantic comedies and dramas. In 1948, he was invited to Hollywood by David O. Selznick, who cast him in The Paradise Case. Jourdan starred in a number of Hollywood films and international productions, including Madame Bovary (1949), Three Coins in the Fountain (1954), Gigi (1958), Can-Can (1960), Irma La Douce (1963), Octopussy (1983), Double Deal (1984) and Year of the Comet (1992, his last film). After 1968, he also appeared in a number of television movies. Fine condition.
