The Academy Award nominated actor and silent screen actress sign opposite
sides of a 4¾x3¼ piece of paper.
Signatures: "Lew Ayres", and, on verso, "To John/Alice
White", 4¾x3¼. Movie and television actor LEW AYRES (1908-1996)
starred opposite Greta Garbo in one of the last silent films, The Kiss
(1929). A leading man through the 1940s, he earned a nomination for the
Academy Award for Best Actor for Johnny Belinda (1948). Ayers
remained active in movie and TV character roles through the 1980s. Silent
screen leading lady ALICE WHITE (born circa 1904-1907; died 1983), born Alva
White, was Warner Bros.' answer to Clara Bow. A former secretary and
script girl, White made her film debut in 1927, appearing in six films that
year. Her film credits include Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1928), The
Big City (1937), Girls' Town (1942) and Flamingo Road (1949).
Lightly creased. Lightly soiled, stained at lower left edge. Light show through
of ink. Overall, fine condition.
