Ayres has pointed out co-star Louis Wolheim by writing an arrow and "Louis Wolheim/(d.)" on the image. In 1981, Ayres appeared in a TV adaptation of John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men and in episodes of Magnum, P. I. and The Love Boat. Ayres (1908-1996, born in Minneapolis, Minnesota) starred opposite Greta Garbo in one of the last films of the silent era, The Kiss (1929). A leading man through the 1940s, he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in Johnny Belinda (1948). Ayers remained active in movie and TV character roles through the 1980s. One of his best remembered roles is as disillusioned German soldier Paul Baumer in All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). Lightly creased and bowed. Light tear and staple holes at top edge. Light nick in bottom right corner. Otherwise in fine condition.
