The 78-year-old actor signs a British postcard that depicts him in 1938.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Berwyn Sousa/very best wishes!/of/Lew Ayres/1987/(age 78)/Photo 1938!". B/w with brown hue, 3½x5½. Name and "Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer" imprinted at lower margin on front. No. W 329 in the British "Picturegoer" Series. Not filled in or stamped on verso. In 1938, Ayres appeared in six feature films: Scandal Street, King of the Newsboys, Holiday, Rich Man, Poor Girl, Young Dr. Kildare (the first of his nine outings in the role) and Spring Madness. In 1987, he guest starred on an episode of the TV series, The Outlaws. Lew Ayres (1908-1996) starred opposite Greta Garbo in one of the last silent films, The Kiss (1929). A leading man through the 1940s, he earned an Oscar nomination for Best Actor in Johnny Belinda (1948). Ayers remained active in movie and TV character roles through the 1980s. Ink slightly smudged (all words legible). Slightly creased at blank margins and corners. Tape remnants and pencil marks (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
