LEW CODY
He signed this typed letter at the end of 1919.
Typed Letter signed: "Lew Cody", 1 page, 7¼x10¾. Glendale, California, 1919 December 30. On personal letterhead to "Dear Mr. Whitacre". In full: "I have your kind letter and want to take this occasion to thank you for all your very gratifying words. My work recently, I assure you, has kept me so constantly before the camera that attention to personal matters has been virtually an impossibility. So, I trust you will condone my delay in replying to your note. Under separate cover, I am sending you a picture which I hope you will like. [Item not included.] With all good wishes, believe me, Sincerely". Lew Cody (1884-1934) starred in silent and early talking films, playing worldly heroes and villains alike. Among his highly regarded films were Rupert of Hentzau (1923), Show People (1928) and The Tenderfoot (1932). He was married to actresses Dorothy Dalton and Mabel Normand. Mailing folds, not near signature. Stain at upper left. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
