school grow into a world-class institution signed this note paper

Lewis Perry (1877-1970), a former English professor at Williams College,
became the eighth Principal of the Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter, New
Hampshire in 1914, serving until his retirement in 1946. When Perry arrived in
his new position, the school was $250,000 in debt; at the end of his tenure,
the school had a $10 million endowment (thanks to Perry's fund-raising
abilities), 33 new buildings and triple the faculty. Perry also abolished
fraternities. The younger brother of Bliss Perry (1860-1954), a Princeton and
Harvard professor, author and one-time editor of the "Atlantic Monthly",Lewis
lived to see the Lewis Perry Music Building dedicated in 1960. His
contributions to education were also commemorated in a biography, Lewis Perry
of Exeter, A Gently Memoir, by William G. Saltonstall (1980). Signature sheet
is lightly creased with folds, horizontal fold underlines signature. Lightly soiled.
Mounting sheet is irregularly cut. Chipped at upper and lower edge and lower
right edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
