LEWIS R. CHUDDThe founder of Imperial Records signs this application for membership to the Friars Club of California Application Double signed: “Lewis R. Chudd” in print on interior face of the first page of integral leaf, and “Lewis R. Chudd” on second page (interior) of integral leaf. Dated January 4, 1962. Lewis R. Chudd (1911-1998) was the founder and president of Imperial Records. Chudd had previously worked for NBC, and his venture into the recording business proved to be a profitable one. Although Imperial landed a number of notable artists, Fats Domino was undoubtedly the label's biggest success. Chudd's record label flourished until the 1960s, when he overextended himself in the process of purchasing other companies. Imperial was sold to Liberty Records in 1962. Corners and edges worn and creased. Two horizontal mailing creases. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
