LIBERACE BROTHERS: WALTER and GEORGE
Both brothers sign on this typed poem from a fan, Liberace adding a drawn candelabra
atop a piano
Inscribed Original Art Signed: "Liberace", "George Liberace!", 1 page, 8½x11. Written on a
typed poem in their honor written by Jimmie Grice, Greenville, South Carolina, 1957 May 6.
The typed text includes a space for an autograph by each brother, but they have ignored those
lines, signing autograph notes instead. The more famous Liberace has written, in full: "I am
pleased and very honored with your Poetrait - Much luch and every Success to You". Beneath his
signature, he has drawn a candelabra atop a piano. George Liberace writes in full: "Great,
Jimmie, Thanks a lot! Musically Yours". A piano prodigy who was performing with symphony
orchestras in his teens, Wladziu Valentino Liberace, born in Milwaukee to Italian parents, went
by Walter and was called Lee by close friends, but was known to the public simply as
LIBERACE (1919-1987). Liberace disappointed the critics but delighted the public by
channeling his talent into popular and novelty songs and on showmanship. With
flamboyant costumes and campy performances, Liberace became in the staid 1950s the
world's highest paid pianist and star of his own Emmy-winning TV show. Liberace left
behind six gold albums, two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and a museum and
foundation, which fund scholarship grants in the arts. GEORGE LIBERACE (1911-1983)
was a talented violinist who often conducted orchestras accompanying his more famous
brother. He founded a small music company and served intermittently as Liberace's manager.
Toned and slightly frayed at edges. Lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
