Inscribed photograph signed "To George Lavioletto/Sincerely/Licia/Albanese" in white ink. B/w, 7¼x9¼. Licia Albanese, born in Bari, Italy, (1909-2014) was an Italian soprano who specialized in the works of Puccini. She is associated especially with Madam Butterfly, which she first performed in 1934 after replacing an absent performer. Albanese was with the Met from her 1940 debut there until 1966. She remained in New York, teaching at the Julliard School and elsewhere, and was honored with the Handel Medallion (2000) for her contribution to the cultural life of New York City. Lightly creased. Light rippling, possibly from water, at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
