Inscribed photograph signed " Licia Albanese/N.Y.1942" in white ink. B/w sepia-toned, 4¾x6¾ overall, 4½x6½ image, one surface. Captioned: "Teatro Scala XVIII/Licia Albanese/(Mimì) in 'Bohème'". Albanese performed the role of Mimì in Puccini's La Bohème three times at the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1942. Licia Albanese (1909-2014) is an Italian soprano who specialized in the works of Puccini. She is associated especially with Madam Butterfly, which she first performed in 1934 after replacing an absent performer. Albanese was with the Met from her 1940 debut there until 1966. She remained in New York, teaching at the Julliard School and elsewhere, and was honored with the Handel Medallion (2000) for her contribution to the cultural life of New York City. Lightly toned and creased. Lightly spotted (not visible head on). Otherwise in fine condition.
