LICINIO REFICE
3½x5½ postcard image of the priestly composer. A rare
signature!
Photograph signed: "Licinio Refice". Sepia, 3½x5½. Illegible
phrase in upper left corner, possibly an inscription. Italian Catholic priest
and composer Licinio Refice (1883-1954) represented the new direction of
Italian church music in the 20th century, leaving the popular song "Ombra
de nube" (1935). His first opera, Cecilia, created a sensation at its
1934 premier in Rome. Another opera, Margherita Da Cortona, appeared
in 1938. Refice died in 1954 during morning rehearsals of Cecilia in Rio
de Janeiro, with Renata Tebaldi singing the title role of Saint Cecilia. Corners
rounded. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
