Captioned 3½x5½ postcard photo of the music hall favorite
Postcard Photograph signed: "Yours truly/Lil Hawthorne". B/w, 3½x5½. Captioned in lower margin. Singer Lillian "Lil" Hawthorne (1877-1926) performed first in the US, in a trio with her sisters, Lola and Nellie. She became a star of British stages and music halls in the first decade of the twentieth century, starring in the title role of Aladdin in a West End show. Hawthorne was a close friend of fellow performer Belle Elmore, and testified at the London murder trial of Elmore's husband, the notorious Dr. Crippen. Books are still being written, and new theories propounded, about this 1910 case. Light surface scratches (not visible head on). Otherwise, fine condition.
