LILI DAMITA
Folded piece of paper signed by actress Lili Damita in pencil
Signature: "lili damita" in pencil. Folded to 5¾x3. You could say French actress Damita (1904-1994), born Lilane Marie Madeline Carre, is remembered less for her acting career and more for her marriage to Errol Flynn, which was his first of three and her second of three, in 1935. With Flynn, she had her only son Sean Flynn, a Vietnam War correspondent who went missing in Cambodia and was declared legally dead in 1984. Damita began her entertainment career at 16 as a music hall career, eventually graduating to the Revue at the Casino de Paris. She began acting in French, German, Austrian and British films in 1921 before coming to Hollywood in 1923. In all, Damita appeared in over 30 films between 1921 and 1954 and was a frequent leading lady in early sound films; she all but retired from movies after her marriage to Flynn. Lightly toned and creased. Signature is cut off slightly at top edge but is legible. Show-through from paper loss on verso (does not touch signature). Irregular edges. Missing corners at top and right. Otherwise in fine condition.
