Original Playbill inscribed and signed on the cover: "hi-/To Judi/Burgess/Meredith" and "Elia Kazan," 24 pages, 6¾x9. Forty-Fourth Street Theatre, New York, April 8, 1940. Burgess Meredith (as Liliom), Ingrid Bergman and Elia Kazan (as Ficzur) are pictured on the cover. A gifted, versatile performer, he is best remembered for his roles as Rocky's trainer, Mickey, in the first three Rocky films and as "The Penguin" on the Batman television series. In addition to making his mark on film history directing such masterpieces as Gentleman's Agreement, A Streetcar Named Desire, On the Waterfront and East of Eden, each of which earned him an Oscar nomination, KAZAN (1909-2003) won the Oscar twice and in 1999 received an honorary Academy Award "In appreciation of a long, distinguished and unparalleled career during which he has influenced the very nature of filmmaking through his creation of cinematic masterpieces." His testimony before the House Un-American Activities Committee made him controversial, despite his movie achievements. Front cover is soiled.
