paper w/irregularly cut picture affixed at lower right corner and ink note
(unknown hand) at lower edge. Bessie Lillian Gordy (1898-1983) and James Earl
Carter (1894-1953) were married in Sumter County, Georgia on September 25,
1923. They had two sons and two daughters: James Earl (Jimmy) Carter, Jr.,
Gloria, Ruth and William (Billy). Lillian Carter was a fraternity housemother at
Alabama's Auburn University, a nurse and a nursing home manager (1962-1964). She
then served in India as a Peace Corps volunteer (1966-1969). Lightly toned.
