LILY PONS
Blue album leaf with printed flowers signed "Sincerely" by the coloratura soprano in blue
ink, dated 1946
Autograph Note signed: "To Colleen Mary/Sincerely/Lily Pons/1946" in blue ink, 6x4 blue
album leaf with printed flower pattern rounded right corners. French-American coloratura
soprano Lily Pons (1904-1976) first appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in 1931. The
opera revived roles especially for her, such as Delibes' "Lakmé", Donizetti's "La Fille du
Regiment" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Le Coq d'or". Pons also appeared in four films, I Dream
Too Much (1935), That Girl From Paris (1936), Hitting a New High (1937) and Carnegie
Hall (1947). In 1938, she married conductor André Kostelanetz; the couple performed
together until the marriage ended in 1958. Lightly toned and bowed. Neatly torn from album
at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
