LILY PONS Sepia-toned 4½x6¼ bust photo of Lily Pons in a shawl and pearl necklace, signed in 1931 Photograph signed: "Lily Pons/1931", in black ink, b/w sepia-toned, 5x6¾ overall, 4½x6¼ image, one surface. French-American coloratura soprano Lily Pons (1904-1976) first appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in 1931. The opera revived roles especially for her, such as Delibes' "Lakmé," Donizetti's "La Fille du Regiment" and Rimsky-Korsakov's "Le Coq d'or". Pons also appeared in four films, I Dream Too Much (1935), That Girl From Paris (1936), Hitting a New High (1937) and Carnegie Hall (1947). In 1938, she married conductor André Kostelanetz; the couple performed together until the marriage ended in 1958. Lightly toned and bowed. Lightly rounded corners. Image is grainy. Errors in negative and developing errors were reproduced in photo. Adhesive residue on verso (no show-through). Pencil notations on verso in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
